Keeping Carpets Clean
You have just hired a professional cleaner to tidy up your once-mouldy carpet. Now, your floor looks brand new and amazing. But how will you keep it that way? Here are a few simple guidelines on how to keep your clean, soft floor cover spotless.
Do not wear shoes when stepping onto your carpet or else you will leave dirt on it. Thus, it is best to instruct your household to leave footwear outside the home. If this is not an option for you, place a heavy-duty doormat at the door, and tell family members to wipe their shoes thoroughly on it before entering the house.
Vacuum your carpet regularly; daily vacuuming is best. If this is impractical, you can do it thrice a week. Alternatively, you may want to purchase a robotic cleaner if you really do not have time to do the chore.
Spills must be taken care of immediately by blotting them out while they are still wet. If you leave them for an extended period of time, the stains will stick to the fibres using protein bonds. These bonds make old stains very difficult to clean.
Do not use harsh chemicals in washing the rug because doing so might damage the fibres. Instead, use mild detergent or shampoo to do the job. Common kitchen ingredients such as club soda and vinegar are some good cleaning solutions.
Keep your rug smelling fresh by spraying carpet freshener every two weeks before you vacuum. If this product is not available, sprinkle baking soda. These substances absorb bad smells such as those coming from cigarettes and food that would otherwise stick to the material’s fibres.
Pet hair can get stuck in the material. Thus, if you have a dog or cat at home, invest in a hair remover that you can buy in supply shops or home improvement stores.
Follow these steps to have a spotless carpet that you can be proud of.
