The word carpet is derived from the Armenian “karpet”, with “kar” referring to a stitch or knot. It is believed that the first carpets originated at some time between the third and second millennium BC in the Caucasus region. The oldest carpet to have ever been found is the Pazyryk carpet, which dates from the fifth to fourth century BC. It was unearthed by Sergei Ivanovich Rudenko from a burial ground in Siberia in 1949. From its origins in the Caucasus, carpets were then brought to Europe through trade between Armenia and Venice. At first, carpets were used to cover tables or hung on walls. It was not until the 18th century when they began to be used on the floors of homes as well.

However, carpets made with polypropylene, especially the ones with small loops, are suitable for places with a lot of traffic such as offices. They are also easy to clean and wear very well. PTT, meanwhile, shares similarities with polyester, but its fibres are more resilient. Carpets made with this material are resistant to both stains and molds.
